I shoot a lot of photos for models with little or no experience so they can add to their portfolio and I can add to mine. One thing I find most models don't seem to do well enough is there makeup before the shoot. Think of this like television and movies where the makeup has to be more dramatic than just your everyday makeup. If you have facial blemished make sure to use a good base. Eyeliner, lipliner and a good eyeshadow all work wonders to make your photo have more "pop" to it.

When it comes to clothes to model in I can think of two basic examples. First would be plain and simple without a lot of color. This will put the emphasis on you and not your clothing. Second if to choose colors and a design that will stand out and looks a bit different than what other models are wearing. Look at lots of model's photos and get some great ideas as to what works and what doesn't.

When you are actually shooting you need to have a great expression in your eyes and face in general. So many models just sem to stare into space and have a very "dead" look to them. Check out Americas Next Top Model and you'll hear that as the most common complaint. Show some emotion whether it be anger, fear, sadness, joy, lust etc. You get the idea. Hopefully you will have some kind of theme for your shoot and your clothes, makeup and expressions need to all work together.

Last of all think about the accessories you want to bring. This includes things such as jewelry, hats, scarves, jackets, gloves, sports equipment such as a tennis racket. Accessories can really make a shot so much better. As a photographer I always try to bring a bag of misc items that I can choose from during the shoot. As a model this might be a good idea for you too. Start gathering things and keep them together ready to grab and take with you when you leave for the shoot. Check out the thrift store and dollar stores for lots of cool items at bargain prices. You don't need to spend a lot of money to look great.

I hope this helps everyone out, models and photographers alike. Hope to see you soon!
